Pia Robert is a resident of Poyentanga, who is 45 years and has 6 children thus, 4 boys and 2 girls. Pia joined the CAPECS GROW project 3 years ago. In the first year she cultivated an acre and got two (100kg) bags. In the second year she cultivated the same size of farmland and harvested 150kg. Pia Robert like other women in her community is engaged in alternative income generating activities alongside farming. Through the nutrition training component of the project, Pia has learnt to use soya to make khebabs and that has added onto her sources of income, which according to her has resulted in a significant increase in her earnings. She disclosed that a bowl of soya that she uses to make khebab will generate an amount that can buy 2 bowls of soya in the local market.

“When am able to sell all my khebab any day I generate as much as GHc 20.00 which can currently buy two bowls of soya in our local market here in poyentanga”Pia Robert also belongs to one of the Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) group in Poyentanga. She revealed that it was not very easy for her to get money to make her scheduled savings during the VSLA meeting days, and so sometimes during their weekly meetings she could not save because she doesn’t have money. However, with the addition of khebab making to her livelihood activities, which resulted in higher incomes, she is now regular in her savings during meetings and even now helps her husband to meet some demands of their children. Living into the future as a parent Pia now has some level of financial security and is hopeful that the future of her children can be bright. Because she now has a regular saving that would enable her address some fundamental financial challenges that she and her household used to struggle with. in school.
